IDA Announces Three-Day Conference in Portofino, Italy - May 16-18, 2011!

Desalination Industry Action for Good!

The International Desalination Association (IDA) is pleased to announce a three day
international conference in Santa Margherita, Portofino, Italy on May 16-18, 2011 themed, “Development of Desalination Technology for Social Responsibility”. The event, supported by the IDA Affiliate European Desalination Society (EDS) features for the first time a unique cooperation with the Rotary International. To read more, please click here.

IDA Strategic Partner With The Levant Desalination Association's First Conference

The Levant Desalination Association (LDA) in conjunction with The Network of Syrian Scientists, Technologies and Innovators Abroad (NOSSTIA) announces its first conference, which will focus on "Water Reuse and Desalination: Experience and Opportunity".

BACKGROUND: Water reuse and desalination have become increasingly vital aspects of global water solutions for the 21st century. Driven by population growth, economic expansion, climate change, dwindling groundwater supplies and the pollution of many existing water resources, our planet is searching for new ways to quench its thirst. Long-range meteorological and demographic forecasts point to slow but protracted diminishing of the water potential of the region as a whole and each of the states in the region separately.

AIM of the CONFERENCE: This Conference is the first in a series of events addressing desalination and water reuse that will be produced by the LDA in the region. This first conference will focus on water reuse and desalination technologies, and will be structured with expert presentations and an open forum to encourage lively interaction with all who attend. All presentations will be available in proceedings.

Topics to be covered by the conference will include:

- Promotion of water demand management to ensure the sustainability of water resources.

- How reuse of urban and industrial wastewater can reduce the need for allocation of fresh water to agriculture from other sources and increase the availability of drinking water by desalination.

- How the use of desalination and water reuse technologies can provide cost effective solutions for countries in the Levant region.

- What role if any, can private capital play in achieving thse ends?

WHEN: September 28 and 29, 2010

WHERE: The Cham Palace, Damascus, Syria

REGISTRATION: Please register on-line at the LDA website - admission is free but you must register in advance - click here to register and to view the LDA website.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This conference is extremely relevant to a wide range of stakeholders including policy makers at the national level; members of the private sector; municipalities; wastewater treatment plant operators; water practitioners, field service and extension advisors; beneficiaries of water reuse; relevant NGOs; and regional and international entities working in Syria.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS: The conference is being organized in a strategic partnership with the International Desalination Association (IDA) and in conjunction with Levant Desalination Association (LDA) and the Network of Syrian Scientists, Technologists and Innovators Abroad (NOSSTIA) under the Patronage of H.E. Mohammed Naji Otri, Prime Minister, Syrian Arab Republic.

IDA Energy Conference - New Dates!

We listened....

Scheduling conferences these days is not easy and it is not possible to accommodate everyone's business and personal schedules.

As interesting and popular as the IDA International Energy Conference in Huntington Beach is, the timing has put a significant burden on both speakers and attendees due to various civil and religious holidays, all taking place at the same time.

We have listened and have rescheduled the program to November 2 & 3, 2010 at the same venue, the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa, Huntington Beach, CA.

We also listened and want to show our support to the local government utilities. We will waive registration fees for the first 75 utility representatives who register before September 25th. To qualify you must complete the registration form click here and return it before September 25th. The first 75 utility registrations received before September 25th will be registered at no charge.  Non-utility organizations may download the above mentioned registraton form, or to register online please click here.

After September 25th, all utilities will still receive a significantly reduced fee of $500 USD. This price reflects an almost 58% reduction of the regular registration fee of $1200 USD.

The Program: Each day is dedicated to in-depth exploration of energy efficiency strategies for the major seawater desalination processes.

¨ Day One– Membrane Processes. Sessions cover seawater membrane improvements, the state-of-the-art in energy efficient seawater reverse osmosis, osmonic power and the potential of membranes to produce energy, and the latest in isobaric energy recovery technology. We’ll present case studies on the actual energy consumption and water cost for SWRO systems at Sand City, California; Perth, Australia; and Ashkelon, Israel.

¨ Day Two – Thermal Processes. Learn from the experts about solar desalination systems, the impact of hybrid processes and facility optimization on energy and efficiency, advances and case histories on MED systems, and the latest on improving energy efficiency in MSF.

Mark Your Calendar For IDA's Winter 2010 Symposium

Mark you calendar for "Desalination and the Gulf: The Relationship between the Environment and Meeting the Region’s Water Needs".

Countries in the Arabian Gulf produce approximately 40% of the world’s desalinated water. With the region’s growing populations and thriving economies, the demand for water will continue to grow…but what are the environmental implications? What does the latest scientific evidence show? What are the differences in various desalination processes? How can governments and the desalination industry take steps to mitigate potential impacts of desalination on this unique body of water to safeguard its future?

Presented by the International Desalination Association, this two-day intensive symposium will facilitate discussion, encourage the exchange of ideas, and ultimately lead to charting a course that creates a model for environmental responsibility around the world.

Join members of IDA’s Environmental Task Force, representatives from the region’s public and private sectors, experts from science and academia, and members of the environmental advocacy community for an examination and open dialogue about this important issue. *Attendance at this seminar is limited. You must complete the application to register.

When: December 6-7, 2010

Where: The Crowne Plaza, Manama, Bahrain

*The application to register will be available to download soon! Please check back!

IDA Journal On Desalination And Water Reuse

IDA and American Water Works Association (AWWA) are co-publishers of the IDA Journal on Desalination and Water Reuse.  Launched at the 2009 World Congress in Dubai, this new publication includes peer-reviewed articles on the technical and scientific aspects of desalination.

The new journal is published quarterly and made available in both print and electronic formats. The Journal is an IDA member benefit during its inaugural year and since its debut in November has released two additional issues. The electronic version features a unique page-turning functionality that mimics the printed publication. Readers can interact with content in many ways, including on-line links and language translation. Click here to view the inaugural issue of the Journal with these dynamic features.  Check out our Publications Section to find out more about this new journal and to view other IDA publications.
