Scholarship General information
Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship

Objective
The objective of the Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship is to encourage engineers and scientists to further their education in subjects related to desalination and water re-use. The scholarship provides financial assistance to graduate students who have been accepted into a graduate program of doctoral studies and who intend to pursue a desalination and water re-use related research thesis.

Monetary Award
The total maximum grant per student is $10,000 USD per calendar year. The award is paid in two equal installments: the first upon notification that the recipient has won, and the second after IDA has received a mid-term progress report from the student’s academic advisor. The individual selected for scholarship must have other sources of funds to supplement this grant that will allow the student to complete graduate degree requirements.

Eligibility
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited university and must be from the top 10% of their class in science or engineering. The applicant must prove admission to a graduate program of doctoral studies in desalination or water re-use and must exhibit leadership and achievement potential. Applicants must be IDA members.

Basis of Award Application
Applications are considered on the basis of their undergraduate and graduate transcripts, university staff and IDA member references along with the individual’s 50 word motivation statement for a planned career in desalination or water re-use technologies.

The applicant must submit application documents by June 1st including the evidence of other source or sources of funding to supplement this scholarship, admission to a post graduate program, past academic records and references. Typically the winner(s) is named within 60 days of the application deadline date. To download an application, click here.

Other Requirements
The student will be obligated to submit two progress reports on their studies and write an article on the detail of their studies and investigations for publication in the IDA Membership News Letter. It is the intention of a IDA Scholarship Committee member to meet with the recipient during the Scholarship period and report back to Committee. The student will also be encouraged to submit a technical paper on their studies for the next scheduled IDA World Congress.
