Nobuya Fujiwara is General Manager of the Desalination Membrane Department of TOYOBO Co., Ltd. in Japan and Director of the Arabian Membrane Japanese Company in Saudi Arabia.  He graduated from Kyoto University, the department of Chemical Engineering, in 1983. He joined TOYOBO Research Institute and studied the performance analysis of RO module. Then, he was transferred to the head office of TOYOBO as a chief engineer.

He was taking charge of development of RO module and establishment of operating methods such as Intermittent Chlorine Injection Method. RO modules which he developed have been used for Jeddah and Yanbu RO plants in Saudi Arabia, both were world's largest seawater desalination RO plant at the time of construction.

Moreover, he led the development team and succeeded in various developments recently. The high recovery (60%) system which offers reduction of plant construction cost and running cost was adopted for the biggest seawater desalination plant in Japan. The newly developed large-sized "Both Open-Ended" RO modules are used in huge seawater desalination plants which have capability to produce water capacity of more than 200,000m3/d in Saudi Arabia.

The capacity of the seawater desalination RO plants which he took charge of is more than 1 million m3/d.

He contributes to development of seawater desalination technology also by publishing many technical papers about the results of his research and development for these 25 years.

In 2008, he received doctor degree (Engineering) from Kobe University in Japan by the research on RO modules for seawater desalination.
