- Fouad Makhzoumi was born in Beirut, Lebanon. - His preliminary and secondary education was received at the International College in Beirut. - He received undergraduate (1974) and Master of Science degrees (1975) in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, in Michigan, United States of America. - In 1975, Mr. Makhzoumi started his business career in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he played a strategic role in developing one of the largest private industrial groups of companies. - In 1984, Fouad Makhzoumi acquired a substantial interest in a UAE Industrial Company. He managed and developed it to become the core of Future Pipe Industries Group with specialized subsidiaries throughout the world. These subsidiaries own industrial, financial, commercial, real estate, consultancy, security, information, multimedia and publishing businesses, as well as research centers. These interests are located in 23 countries such as Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Germany, UK, Spain, U.S.A., Thailand, and Singapore and others.
POSITIONS
- Mr. Makhzoumi is presently the Chairman of Future Pipe Group "FPi" - Mr. Makhzoumi acted as the President of the International Desalination Association (IDA) between 1995 and 1997, and is currently the Controller of the Association. - He acted as well as Vice Chairman of the Institute for Social and Economic Policy in the Middle East at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, between 1995 and 1998. - He is currently a member of the International Board of the "Council on Foreign Relations - US/Middle East Project", since 1996. - Founder and chairman of the Executive Board of the National Dialogue Party since 2004. PUBLIC ACTIVITIES
- He started his involvement in Public Affairs after the Lebanese civil war ended. His economic experience allowed him to understand a lot about the political and social situation, not only in Lebanon but also in the Arab World in general. In addition, he is a leading economist who looks at economy as a main element in the development of countries. - He has many contributions to the press and edits the "Mirror of the Arab Press", the first daily electronic newspaper, in English and Arabic, with a site on the Internet's Worldwide Web. - He sponsored a study on "Harnessing Trade for Development and Growth in the Middle East", prepared by a group of experts selected by the US Council on Foreign Relations.
HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES They focus on the redevelopment of Lebanon and the welfare of its people. - He is the founder of two foundations, devoted to charitable and humanitarian works: The Future Millennium Foundation, located in the United States and The Makhzoumi Foundation in Beirut, Lebanon. - The Makhzoumi Foundation avails a number of philanthropic offerings to the Lebanese people, comprising of vocational training in a great number of fields; medical care programs, guidance and awareness programs, agroforestry and desertification related activities in conjunction with European Union NGOs, as well as a micro credit program. The latter program provides small scale loans to individuals in order to help them gradually to finance their own sustainability in life. The micro credit program is carried-out with, primarily, the financial support of the founder, Mr. Fouad Makhzoumi, and of other international organizations, such as USAID and CNEWA.
