Dr. Sommariva is the head of the Desalination Department at Mott MacDonald Ltd. His department is responsible for the project management, design and review of desalination plants and associated power plants. He holds the post of associate professor at Genoa University, where he received his Doctorate in Chemical Engineering. For the past fifteen years he has been engaged in the design, construction and commissioning of 12 major desalination plants in the Middle East. He has published more that 30 papers on desalination and water re-use, two of which were awarded prizes at the 1995 IDA conference for their high quality.
