Mr. Sanz has 26-years professional experience in desalination as well as in drinking water and wastewater fields. He joined the Degrémont group in 1983, in Spain where he currently holds the position of Director of Business Development. Mr. Sanz has led the Project Department; from 1992 to 2002. He was Technical and Project Director for the Spanish subsidiary. From 2002 to 2006, he held the position of Desalination Manager and Deputy Technical Director for Degrémont group, based in France. He is currently a Member of the Board and Director of Business Development in Degrémont Iberia.
Mr. Sanz is active among IDA’s sister organisations, as a Member of the Board of Directors of EDS and AEDyR; he is also a member of IDA, CaribDA, AEAS and WEF, as well as member of the Editorial Board of Directors of D&WR.
He has published more than 40 papers on Desalination and Water Treatment. From 1997 to 2007, and presented 9 papers in IDA Congress and in 2007. Mr. Sanz also served has co-chairman of the 2009 IDA World Congress Technical Program.
Having the expert status within Degrémont,he have a stake in promoting innovation in the field of membrane desalination and he took part in the design, build and operation of more than 40 brackish or sea water desalination plants, representing a total capacity of more than 1300000 m3/day. Among these plants, with a production between 100000 and 200000 m3/d, can be mentioned Fujairah (UAE), Perth (Australia), Carboneras, Barcelona , el-Atabal (Spain), and Wadi Ma’In (Jordan).
Along with the Degrémont’s teams, he has been committed to the development and promotion of new processes and water treatment technologies aiming at improving performance of reverse osmosis equipments.
In addition, Mr. Sanz hasI particular focus on three major issues involving other business or areas of expertise, for the development of desalination:
- energy consumption
- impact of brine rejection on the environment
- cost of desalination technologies
As a subsidiary of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, Degrémont is part of a world leader in environmental technologies – and also part of a global energy player through GDF-SUEZ group. So he can rely on a powerful R&D department, and work with close collaboration and synergy with the different subsidiaries of the group in every field related to the main issues of the water-energy nexus (financing and implementing complex power and water production sites).
Industrial Engineer degree received in 1981 from Bilbao High Technical School of Engineers.
