Prof. Shichang Wang
China

Professor Shichang Wang holds the position in the Chemical Engineering Research Center, School of Chemical Engineering and Technologies, and is Director of the Desalination and Membrane Technology Center at Tianjin University. He was the Vice Dean of the Graduate School, and the Vice Chairman of the Degree Committee of the university. He gained Bachelor in Chemical Engineering Department at Sichuan University (Chengdu Institute of Technology), and Master at Tianjin University, 1964.

Professor Wang engaged in the desalination research in 1970’s. He designed and developed the first MSF desalination plant in China with capacity of 100 m3/d in 70’s , and then , as consultant, constructed the first power-station MSF plant in China in 80’s. He completed many key technology projects supported by the government such as large scale multi-effect distillation plant, multi-stage flash technology for desalination, theories of heat-transfer and mass-transfer in distillation, membranes and processes (UF, MD and GS), membrane bioreactor for algae immobilization, energy recovery device for RO plant, unsteady–state process of distillation, and high efficiency distillation columns for petrochemical separation. Professor Wang has developed the first energy recovery device (positive displacement) in China with desalting capacity of 1000 m3/d and novel types of ERD.

He is one of the founders of the China Desalination Society (CDS), the China Desalination Association (CDA), and the Journal of Desalination (Journal of Water Treatment) in China. And he was the Vice Chairman of the CDS and CDA, respectively. He was an advisor of the Tianjin Institute of Seawater Desalination and Multipurpose Utilization in the 80-90’s.

Professor Wang is a Director of the Board of Asia-Pacific Desalination Association (APDA), and a member of the Council of Oceanography Society of China, a member of the Council of Natural Resources Society of China, and Vice Chairman of Editorial Board of the Journal of Membrane Science and Technology.

Professor Wang was awarded by the Government many times such as National Science-Technology Award, National Education Ministry Science-Technology Award, and Tianjin Municipal Government Science Award. He was conferred on National-grade Specialist by the National Personnel Ministry, and conferred on Chemical Separation Specialist by Tianjin Science and Technology Commission.
